24/11/07 CHRIST CHURCH REGATTA HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Unfortunately, it is now certain that no rowing will take place. Our crews have trained very hard this term, and hopefully all of that effort will go into making us stronger for Torpids.

There are two Boatie tables at Formal this week, so sign up if you can!
2/10/07 FRESHER ROWING AND INDUCTION

As usual, LMHBC will have a stall at the LMH Freshers' Fair. Inductions will take place at the river on Sunday afternoon, details to be announced nearer the time.
1/10/07 FRESHERS' WEEK

Welcome back, and all of the exec hope you had a good summer.

The next "rowing" event is the LMH Freshers' Fair, so to anyone who meets these first years before then, feel free to shamelessly plug how good the boat club is.

Talk about all the stash, the stash is good.
6/6/07 PHOTOS FROM SUMMER EIGHTS

The photos from this term have been uploaded. There are some nice pictures there of our boys and girls getting out on the water, so please take a look!

If you have any good rowing-related photos (either on the water or from socials, etc), then please send them in, to the new Webmaster email account.

Good luck with exams, to those with ones left, and have a good vac to the rest,

Sam

31/5/07 ORIEL REGATTA

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday of 7th week, LMH would like to enter a few boats into the erm... prestigious... Oriel Regatta. Ideally, we'd like a men's and women's VIII and a mixed boat. If you're an old boatie who's just finished finals, a former cox or a current member, Mat and Victoria would love to hear from you so please email them to register your interest. Entries deadline is Tuesday of 7th week so let them know by Monday at the latest.
27/5/07 SUMMER EIGHTS

Eights 2007 only saw three crews enter from LMH and unfortunately, the men's 2nd VIII failed to qualify by only a few seconds. Wednesday then saw M1 start at 5th and W1 at 2nd, both in division 3. Sunshine brought the crowds down to the river and there was a good atmosphere for the first day's racing.

For the women, apart from one run of the IWL course, it was the first race of the year and nerves were running high. Their start was a little shaky and Corpus Christi started gaining on them immediately, bumping them just before the gut. Revenge was sweet though as the men bumped Corpus men at roughly the same place. There's a particularly fetching photo of the crew as the "call to ram Corpus" was given...

Thursday dawned with yet more sunshine. The girls this time were being chased by a fearsome St Anne's crew who promptly bumped them much earlier than Corpus did. LMH's performance was better this time though and the girls were naturally disappointed but content that they had rowed to the best of their ability. M1 began strong, but unfortunately Pembroke II bumped Linacre leaving open water between them and head of the division Mansfield. Despite a valiant effort, Mansfield's stern just crossed the finish line before LMH could bump, which put paid to M1's hopes for blades.

Friday saw a lot of panic from W1 as Aly was ill and couldn't row. After desperate searching, Cat Collins from Regent's Park kindly stepped in to help. The girls were being chased by a slow Trinity, who in turn were being chased by a St Antony's crew that looked fast. They were hopeful but once again, the girls were bumped about halfway through the gut as St Antony's failed to produce the speed we had seen from them on Thursday, and Trinity gradually gained on LMH. The men had success once more though as they got a well-deserved bump on Linacre - again, awesome pictures!

Saturday of Eights - the biggest day of the Oxford rowing calendar - and W1 were looking to avoid spoons with M1 seeking to bump Pembroke II who had denied them a bump on Thursday. W1 improved throughout the week, getting more experienced and calmer, allowing technique to dominate instead of utter panic. They had a strong start and made it to the gut, with St Antony's just behind them. However, with some genius coxing from Laura following Bradley's 'evade' plan, LMH managed to slalom away from St Antony's leaving them in the middle of the river where Mansfield very kindly bumped them. When Jesus were also bumped, LMH was the last racing crew of the division, giving them the honour of racing past the boathouses to the sound of raucous cheering. A happy end to their Eights story. M1 too had the joy of rowing past the boathouses, hot on the tail of Pembroke II, who in turn were chasing Mansfield. LMH had got pretty close at the gut but Pembroke II had managed to pull away. All three crews rowed over, and although a bump was thought to have been awarded to LMH, it was later overturned. M1 fought hard to reverse the downward trend of the last couple of years and although they only bumped twice, it is clear that they deserved so much more.

I think it's fairly safe to say we can expect good stuff from M1 next year.
14/4/07 WOMEN’S SUMMER ROWING

There are quite a few spaces left in the squad for Trinity. If there are any women who would like to join us, you would be more than welcome. The squad is basically the 1st and 2nd VIIIs – fitness work is done together for mutual support and then each crew has its own water outings. If anyone would be interested in committing themselves to sunshine and Pimms on the river, please email Victoria Loton. Similarly, if anyone would be interested in rowing more informally in a beer boat, please get in touch.
12/4/07 007 COCKTAILS BOP

On Saturday of 0th week to celebrate end of collections and training camps and anything else you fancy, the Boat Club is organising another of its infamous cocktails parties – the first for a couple of years. You can get your tickets from members of the Exec outside Hall in 0th week.

Cocktails available in typical Martini glass form and pint glasses (Matt’s request, if you’re curious).

There will be a classic cheesy bop going on down in the bar, with something a little more refined in the JCR à la James Bond.Aston Martins are optional, so see you there!
10/4/07 NEW WEBSITE

Welcome to the new website for Lady Margaret Hall Boat Club! We have worked very hard over the vacation to get this new site up and running in time for Trinity. As you will see, there is a photo gallery that could really do with some more quality pictures – the more lycra the better! Please email them to Victoria Loton or if you have a lot, please put them on a disk and put it in her pigeonhole. Thanks.

Hopefully you’ll be able to find everything you need here, but if not, please get in touch with the Secretary. Similarly, if you have any comments, please email.
